Summary

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is seeking a qualified laboratory to conduct advanced testing and thermal analysis of permafrost core samples collected in Alaska. This opportunity involves specialized testing of thaw consolidation, thermal conductivity, heat capacity, and unfrozen water content of permafrost samples, which are critical for understanding the impacts of climate change on ice-rich terrains. The work is intended to support USGS's research efforts and the Department of Defense's validation of remote sensing technologies. The University of Alaska is identified as the only source capable of meeting the technical requirements due to its specialized equipment and expertise. Contractors with experience in frozen soil testing and permafrost characterization are encouraged to respond, although this is primarily a notice of intent to negotiate with a single source.
