Summary
The GRSM Eastern Hellbender Stewardship DNA opportunity involves a contract with the National Park Service (NPS) to process a significant volume of environmental genetic samples and tissue samples related to the eastern hellbender, an imperiled aquatic amphibian. The contractor will be responsible for sequencing environmental DNA (eDNA) and genomic tissue samples, as well as developing novel genetic tools to aid in the conservation of this species within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This project is particularly suited for small businesses with expertise in environmental consulting and genetic analysis, especially those familiar with amphibian genomes and capable of handling high-throughput sequencing and analysis. The work is critical for assessing the health and trends of hellbender populations, which are currently facing threats to their survival.
Description
The National Park Service (NPS), Great Smoky Mountains National Park, will be contracting to process high volumes of environmental genetic samples, tissue samples for next generation genomics and transcriptomics, and academic interest and capability of developing novel genetic tools.
