Summary

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is planning to award a single source contract to BANGHAM ENGINEERING INC. (BEI) for the design, development, and execution of low-impact velocity Liquid-Oxygen (LOX)/Methane (LCH4) explosive yield drop tests. This initiative aims to analyze the explosive yield of both 20,000-lb and 500-lb pressurized LOX-LCH4 rocket propellant tanks. The results will support the FAA's Commercial Space Transportation Office in enhancing the modeling of LOX-LCH4 rocket propellant explosions, which is crucial for evaluating license applications for LOX-LCH4 vehicles. The contract, valued at approximately $10.7 million, is set to run from May 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026. Given the specialized nature of this work, contractors with expertise in explosive testing, aerospace engineering, and safety compliance in commercial space operations are encouraged to consider this opportunity, although it is noted that the contract will not be open for competitive bidding.
