Summary

The Methyl Bromide Transition Program (MBT) grant, issued by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, aims to help address the immediate needs and costs of transitioning away from methyl bromide, a critical pesticide being phased out. The grant focuses on funding integrated commercial-scale research on methyl bromide alternatives and associated extension activities to promote their adoption. Projects should explore new methodologies, technologies, systems, and strategies for controlling economically important pests previously managed with methyl bromide. Research proposals must include an economic analysis of the transition costs at a commercial scale. This grant opportunity, with an estimated total program funding of $1,860,434, expects to make four awards with an award floor of $450,000 and an award ceiling of $625,000. Applicants eligible to apply include colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving agricultural colleges and universities, and 1994 Institutions. Non-eligible organizations may be subcontracted if essential for the project. The deadline for applications is on March 20, 2025. For businesses or non-profits involved in agricultural research, pest management, or pesticide alternatives, this grant presents a valuable opportunity to contribute to sustainable pest control solutions and help address the challenges posed by the phase-out of methyl bromide.
