Summary

NASA is seeking information from commercial providers regarding Earth-Proximity Space-Relay Communication and Navigation Services as part of its transition from government-owned infrastructure to a commercially driven architecture. This Request for Information (RFI) aims to gather insights on current and planned capabilities in space-based relay communication and navigation, particularly for missions operating below 36,000 km. The agency is looking for innovative, scalable, and cost-effective satellite communication solutions to support its evolving mission needs, especially as it phases out the aging Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) system. Contractors with expertise in satellite communications, particularly those who can provide services that are backward compatible with TDRS, are encouraged to respond to this RFI, which is a precursor to a competitive procurement process expected to culminate in an RFP in 2027.
